Easy Fruit Sorbet

(Only 1 ingredient and so many flavors of fresh fruits!)

My healthy recipe for Sorbet

What is a Sorbet?

A sorbet is a fruit that’s frozen.

Ice cream is creamy and very delicious. Sorbet is very light, very refreshing with fresh fruits, and far easier on the waistline—making it a perfect treat for a steamy summer day – and no need to count on your calories –make it without sugar or honey.

How to start?

Just peel and cut your fruits into cubes and then freeze them. Remove the seeds, if any before freezing them.

Here’s what you need to make it

  1. An ice crushing blender or a small food processor
  2. Your favorite summer fruits (fresh bought and then diced and frozen)
  3. Optional – a squeeze of lemon juice (this isn’t needed if the fruit is sour, like kiwi fruit)

Personally, I don’t use lemon in the sorbets.

And here’s the very simple idea behind my sorbets –

I love my ice crushing blender because I love eating crushed ice.

I cut them into small pieces and freeze them (for around 4 hours), then I can crush those fruit ice cubes to turn them into a delicious sorbet.

The only addition I’d need is some extra liquid, which can be orange juice or simple lemon or water or any liquid which will be easy on the blender to blend the fruit.

[Many add simple syrup, maple syrup etc. – but I totally avoid sugar or honey in any form].

 

FRUIT SORBET- how to make it?

 

  1. Peel and cut up whole fruits into ½ inch cubes and deseed them before freezing (except raspberries – these can be frozen whole).
  2. Freeze the fruits completely (for 4 hours minimum). You can even store them in freezer bags. (Optional -I store them directly)
  3. Roughly weigh out 8 oz of the frozen fruit. Then place them in a small food processor or ice crushing blender for blending.
  4. Pulse to crush the fruits into a smooth blend and add some juice or liquid, a tablespoon at a time (while pulsing) to create a smooth sorbet-like paste.

We need to add the juice or liquid or water – a tablespoon at a time to make it easy for the processor to work and not get damaged in the process.

If the processor can work without the liquid or juice – go ahead without them.

  1. Add a squeeze of lemon juice and run the blender for a few seconds to mix.-Optional

I do not recommend lemon. It depends on your personal taste buds.

 

  1. Spoon it into a bowl and serve immediately – or store in the freezer until you’re ready.

Remember to cover the sorbet before refreezing it. This will keep the taste intact and avoid extra ice deposit on it. Moreover, you can just remove the lid and serve it instantly.

 

SORBET RECIPE – IMPORTANT NOTES WHEN BLENDING IN THE PROCESSOR

 

Note 1 – When using the blender, it’s best to use it in short bursts as the blades heat up and this could melt your sorbet. The smaller the fruit pieces the faster it will puree. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t melt.

Note 2 – For ease of blending: add just water, or orange juice (or any kind of fruit juice).

Note 3 – If you do not have a Blender you can do this in a regular blender if it handles frozen things well. You’ll need to add more liquid to get things moving though, so the texture might be more smoothie-like.

You can make a sorbet out of almost any kind of fruit.

In case you do not plan to make sorbet on the same day

Once the fruits are frozen, you can store them in freezer bags.

This way your fruits will last longer. For smaller fruits like raspberries and blackberries or blueberries, you don’t need to cut them. Just freeze them whole.

When sorbet time rolls around, take out whichever frozen fruit your heart desires and whip up some deliciously refreshing sorbet.

226 g of frozen fruit will give you 2 smaller portions of sorbet.

  • If you are eating the sorbet immediately, then you can eat the sorbet straight out of the blender.
  • This is what I recommend for the fresh flavor and yum looks for the appetite.
  • If you feel like mixing flavors. It’s as easy as combining two frozen fruits together in your blender.
  • If you want a swirled sorbet with two different colors. Just make the sorbets separately in your blender (store the first in the freezer while you make the second), and then serve them together in the same bowl.
  • Make the lighter color first and the dark one later in the blender.

This recipe only takes watermelon and water. It’s the ultimate guilt-free, virtually calorie-free snack for those summer days when you’re craving something cold and yearn to eat it guilt free without counting your calories.

You can indulge with all your different fruit cravings at once here. It uses banana, frozen berries, and either mango or pear (or both!) to create a light but creamy texture. Experiment with your taste buds and color blend.

  1. Honey Sweetened Strawberry and Lemon Sorbet

Is there anything more refreshing than lemon sorbet? Add in a bit of raw honey, strawberries, and sea salt, and this recipe becomes a flavorful but healthy dessert.

I don’t suggest honey. Just exclude the honey from the recipe.

  1. Fresh Coconut Sorbet with coconut water

 

Last but not the least

So good enough, now you’ll be buying fresh seasonal fruit just to make sorbets next time!
